Did You Know the Village has a New Noise Ordinance?

The Village of Palm Springs Police Department receives noise complaints often and especially on holidays.  Although we want everyone to enjoy living in our Village, we still need to respect the peace and quiet of our neighbors.  Recently, we have received several complaints regarding loud parties that continue into the early morning hours.

Please be aware that there is a Village Ordinance that governs the type of noise and the times such noise is appropriate and/or restricted.  When the Palm Springs Police Department receives a complaint of noise, the following is considered:

  • Use of loudspeakers and sound amplifiers are prohibited within residential communities between 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. on weekdays, and between 10:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays.
  • Any prolonged period of low frequency sound (bass) vibrations is prohibited.
  • Machinery construction work is prohibited between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
  • The use of lawn equipment, that can be heard by your neighbors, is prohibited between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.

If you are going to call the police department regarding a noise complaint, please keep in mind that our Ordinance requires that any sound measurements be made from your property.  There are restrictions of how loud the noise can be and the police department has sound meters to measure the levels, however, our Ordinance also states that a noise can still be a violation without a sound measurement if the noise is unusually loud when heard from the property of the person making the complaint.

So, please be considerate of your neighbors and be mindful of how loud the noise your making is and at what time it is.

If you would like to read our Ordinance in further detail or if you have any questions or concerns or would like to ask more questions of the Palm Springs Police Department, please visit us or contact our Code Enforcement Department at 561-968-8243.
